Just because summer has come to an end, doesn't mean you have to put away your favorite summer dress. In fact, I love wearing said dress in the fall, because I get to style it in a completely different way! Not to mention, it's ideal for those days when the temperature is cool in the morning, then can spike up to 80 degrees by mid day!
So how do you make a summer dress work for the fall? Here are three simple ways:
1. Pair your dress with boots. The look of a bootie or over-the-knee boot can instantly give any outfit a fall feel. It's an easy way to add a little fall into your step while the weather is still warm. The dress I'm wearing happens to have long sleeves, so it's also ideal for a cooler day, but if your dress doesn't have sleeves (as most summer dresses don't), you can add layers, which brings me to step two.
2. Layer your dress with a cozy cardigan. Whether you choose an oversized knit or a cropped cardigan, both make the perfect layer during the fall. I especially love the feminine feel an open knit cardigan can add to a floral dress.
3. Add a leather jacket or blazer. Leather jackets are great for adding warmth, and I love the bit of edge they add to a dress. A blazer also pairs well if you're wanting your look to be a little more polished. Also, as temperatures drop even cooler, add a pair of thick tights and a hat, and you're set for the winter!
